Morpheme is the smallest form that can membedaka or have meaning and significance. The realization can be affix morpheme, klitika, particles and root words (eg late, was the one, -kah, take). As the unity of discrete categories, all instances of a form of the morpheme is the smallest form in the sense that it can no longer be divided into smaller form unity.
To prove morpheme as distinct meanings we can do by linking it with the word morpheme has meaning / lexical meaning. If the linking it produces a new meaning, that means that coupled with the base word is a morpheme.
Example: morpheme -an, -in, her, ter, was the one when combined with the word meal, can form new words; makaan, edible, eat, inedible, eat, words have new meaning and different from the word eat.

Definition
A morpheme is the smallest meaningful unit in the grammar of a language.
Discussion
Current approaches to morphology conceive of morphemes as rules involving the linguistic context, rather than as isolated pieces of linguistic matter. They acknowledge that
meaning may be directly linked to suprasegmental phonological units, such as tone or stress.
the meaning of a morpheme with a given form may vary, depending on its immediate environment.
Source:
Payne, T. 1997a 20–21
Examples (English)
Unladylike
The word unladylike consists of three morphemes and four syllables.
Morpheme breaks:
un- 'not'
lady '(well behaved) female adult human'
-like 'having the characteristics of'
None of these morphemes can be broken up any more without losing all sense of meaning. Lady cannot be broken up into "la" and "dy," even though "la" and "dy" are separate syllables. Note that each syllable has no meaning on its own.
Dogs
The word dogs consists of two morphemes and one syllable:
dog, and
-s, a plural marker on nouns
Note that a morpheme like "-s" can just be a single phoneme and does not have to be a whole syllable.
Technique
The word technique consists of only one morpheme having two syllables.
Even though the word has two syllables, it is a single morpheme because it cannot be broken down into smaller meaningful parts.
Morpheme is the smallest grammatical unity connotes, which does not have the same in both form and meaning with other forms. (Sitindoan, 1984: 64).

In morpheme-based morphology, a
morpheme is the smallest lingual unit that carries a semantic interpretation.
Morphemes are, generally, a distinctive collocation of phonemes (as the free form pin or the bound form -s of pins) having no smaller meaningful members.
English example: The word "unbreakable" has three morphemes "un-", (negatory) a bound morpheme, "-break-" a free morpheme, and "-able". "un-" is also a prefix, "-able" is a suffix. Both are affixes.
Morpheme is a meaningful linguistic unit consisting of a word (such as dog) or a word element (such as the -s at the end ofdogs) that can't be divided into smaller meaningful parts. Adjective: morphemic.

A morpheme is smallest syntactical and meaningful lingustic unit that contains a word or an element of the word such as the use of -s whereas this unit is not divisible further into smaller syntactical parts,
ReplyDeletefor example: the word "pins" contains two morphemes:"pin" and the plural suffix "-s", for morphemes funtion as the foundation of language and sintax.
The term morpheme is used to refer to the smallest, indivisible units of semantic content or grammatical function which word are made up. The word morpheme is derived from the root morph.
ReplyDeleteThe suffix in morphemes is –eme ; it is something related to minimal distinctive unit. That is the smallest unit that can be distinguished in some system of classification. The root of the word comes from Greek word ‘morphe’ which means form or shape.
In linguistics, a morpheme is the smallest semantically meaningful unit in a language that can not be divided into a small unit. The field of study dedicated to morphemes is called morphology. A morpheme is not identical to a word, and the principal difference between the two is that a morpheme may or may not stand alone, whereas a word, by definition, is a freestanding unit of meaning. Every word comprises one or more morphemes.

Morphemes are two : free morpheme which in simple way we call it as base word and bound morpheme which including affixes.
ReplyDeleteI will give one example about morpheme. It's INTERCHANGE, there are 2 morphemes on that word

- Creative (2 morphemes)
- Uncommonly (3 morphemes)

The term morphome refers to a function in linguistics which is purely morphological or has an irreducibly morphological component. The term was introduced by Martin Maiden[1] following Mark Aronoff's identification of morphomic functions and the morphomic level--a level of linguistic structure intermediate between and independent of phonology and syntax. In distinguishing this additional level, Aronoff makes the empirical claim that all mappings from the morphosyntactic level to the level of phonological realisation pass through the intermediate morphomic level.

As we have seen, morphology is the branch of linguistics that examines the formation of a word that has meaning lexical or grammatical. So, here I will explain morpheme in word formation.
Morpheme is a unit of language which participated in the formation of words and can be differentiated meaning. Morpheme can also be said to be the smallest element of the word formation and adapted to the rules of a language. In Indonesian morpheme affixes can be shaped. For example the word has two morphemes presumption is ( pre ) and ( guess ). Password guess is a basic word adding morpheme ( pre ) cause changes in meaning to the word guess.

A Morpheme as an Affix
An affix is a bound morpheme, which means that it is exclusively attached to a free morpheme for meaning. Prefixes and suffixes are the most common examples.
prefixes are : re-, sub-, trans-, in-, en-, ad-, dis-, con-, com-
suffixes are: -s, -es, -able, -ance, -ity, -less, -ly, -tion
Gleason (1955) “a morpheme is the sellest unit which is grammatically pertinent.”
ReplyDeleteConsist of free morpheme and bound morpheme.
A free morpheme is a morpheme that can stand alone as aword. For example : ABLE .
A bound morpheme can not stand alone and be meaningful. For example : UN-ABLE

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah.
Morphologhy is study of basic form of word that called as morphem. In morphology and English gramatical we can find "morpheme". What the morpheme is?
Morpheme is an any of the minimal grammatical units of a language, each constituting a word or meaningful part of a word, that cannot be divided into smaller independent grammatical parts.
There are two Morpheme :
* free morpheme which in simple way we call it as base word and,
*bound morpheme which including affixes. (pre-, dis-, in-, un-, -ful, -able, -ment, -ly, -ise)
For easier undertanding, I'll give some example of morpheme.
"Increas"
In = Bound Morpheme
Crease = Free Morphome
"Unbelievable"
Un = Bound Morpheme
Beleive = Free Morpheme
Able = Bound Morpheme
You can take the good side of my perspective about morpheme, and you can throw away the bad side of that.

Definition of morpheme for English Language Learners
linguistics : a word or a part of a word that has a meaning and that contains no smaller part that has a meaning
In linguistics, a morpheme is the smallest grammatical unit in a language. In other words, it is the smallest meaningful unit of a language. The field of study dedicated to morphemes is called morphology. A morpheme is not identical to a word, and the principal difference between the two is that a morpheme mayor may not stand alone, whereas a word, by definition, is freestanding. When it stands by itself, it is considered as a root because it has a meaning of its own (e.g. the morpheme cat) and when it depends on another morpheme to express an idea, it is an affix because it has a grammatical function (e.g. the –s in cats to indicate that it is plural).[1] Every word comprises one or more morphemes.
Classification of morphemes[edit]
Free and bound morphemes[edit]
Every morpheme can be classified as either free or bound.[2] These categories are mutually exclusive, and as such, a given morpheme will belong to exactly one of them.
• Free morphemes can function independently as words (e.g. town, dog) and can appear with other lexemes (e.g. town hall, doghouse).
• Bound morphemes appear only as parts of words, always in conjunction with a root and sometimes with other bound morphemes. For example, un- appears only accompanied by other morphemes to form a word. Most bound morphemes in English are affixes, particularly prefixes and suffixes. Examples of suffixes are -tion, -ation, -ible, -ing, etc. Bound morphemes that are not affixes are called cranberry morphemes.
Classification of bound morphemes[edit]
Bound morphemes can be further classified as derivational or inflectional.
Examples
• "Unbreakable" comprises three morphemes: un- (a bound morpheme signifying "not"), -break- (the root, a free morpheme), and -able (a free morpheme signifying "can be done").
• Allomorphs of the plural morpheme for regular nouns: /s/ (e.g. in cats /kæts/),/ɪz, əz/ (e.g. in dishes /dɪʃᵻz/), and /z/(e.g. in dogs /dɒɡz/).

Definition of Morphemes
As scientists have studied the composition of the universe, they've determined that the smallest unit for measuring an element is the atom. If you think of the periodic table of elements, atoms are what comprise elements, such as hydrogen, carbon, silver, gold, calcium, and so on. Scientists utilize this classification system for uniformity, so that they're on the same page in the terminology of their studies.
Similarly, linguists, or those who study language, have devised a category for the smallest unit of grammar: morphemes. Morphemes function as the foundation of language and syntax. Syntax is the arrangement of words and sentences to create meaning. We shouldn't confuse morphemes as only a given word, number of syllables, or only as a prefix or suffix. The term morpheme can apply to a variety of different situations. Let's take a look!
Types of Morphemes
In linguistics, we would further classify morphemes as either as phonemes (the smallest units of grammar recognizable by sound) or graphemes (the smallest units of written language). For our purposes, we will focus on graphemes.
Let's examine the word nonperishable, analyze it, and then discuss terms associated with it.
Nonperishable is comprised of three morphemes: non-, perish, and -able. It actually has five syllables though, which is a good example of why morphemes and syllables are not synonymous.
non- is an example of a prefix, or a morpheme that precedes a base morpheme
perish is an example of a base morpheme, as it gives the word its essential meaning
-able is an example of a suffix, or a morpheme that follows a base morpheme

Morpheme is derived from the word "morphe" which means the shape and the word "ema" which means to distinguish meaning. So simple, a morpheme is the smallest form that can differentiate meaning. Here understanding morpheme according to some experts:
Morpheme is the smallest grammatical units that have meaning (Chaer, 1994: 146).
Morpheme is the smallest unit of language whose meaning has been relatively stable and that can not be divided into smaller meaningful parts; eg, (most), (di-), (pencil), and so is a morpheme (Kridalaksana, 1993: 141).
Morpheme is unity which participate in the formation of words and distinguishable means (Keraf, 1984: 52).

Assalamualaikum. I have read all of comments, and almost all of comments are talking about definition and example from Morphem. Because of that, I want to give something different in this comment. I wanto to share definition and some examples of ALLMORPH, the sources are en.wikipedia.org and www-01.sil.org. An allomorph is one of two or more complementary morphs which manifest a morpheme in its different phonological or morphological environments. For example, in English, a past tense morpheme is -ed. It occurs in several allomorphs depending on its phonological environment, assimilating voicing of the previous segment or inserting a schwa when following an alveolar stop:
• as /əd/ or /ɪd/ in verbs whose stem ends with the alveolar stops /t/ or /d/, such as 'hunted' /hʌntɪd/ or 'banded' /bændɪd/
• as /t/ in verbs whose stem ends with voiceless phonemes other than /t/, such as 'fished' /fɪʃt/
• as /d/ in verbs whose stem ends with voiced phonemes other than /d/, such as 'buzzed' /bʌzd/
Notice the "other than" restrictions above. This is a common fact about allomorphy: if the allomorphy conditions are ordered from most restrictive (in this case, after an alveolar stop) to least restrictive, then the first matching case usually "wins". Thus, the above conditions could be re-written as follows:
• as /əd/ or /ɪd/ when the stem ends with the alveolar stops /t/ or /d/
• as /t/ when the stem ends with voiceless phonemes
• as /d/ elsewhere
Morpheme is a grammatical units of a language that has meaning and can not be divided into smaller language form again. Morpheme grammar function in distinguishing plural (plural), said the past (past tense) and so on. Morpheme division is divided into two, namely, free morpheme and bound morpheme.
ReplyDelete1. Free morpheme is a word that can stand alone (independent) and have the potential to form words. Free morpheme is divided into two, namely, lexical functional morpheme and morpheme.
2. Bound morpheme is a word that can not stand alone (dependent), he is also no potential to form words, but the potential to form a particle. Bound morpheme is divided into two, namely, Derivational inflectional morpheme and morpheme.
Morpheme is the smallest grammatical units that have meaning. Morpheme can not be devided into smaller language form again. In english grammar, morpheme serves to distinguish the plural(plural),said the past(past tense) and so on.

Morphology concerns the internal structure of words. Words are comprised of units of meaning, called morphemes. Each morpheme is a distinct unit of meaning. For example the word banana is one morpheme while the word uneventfulness contains four morphemes: un- event -ful and -ness. The meaning can be lexical (for example, banana) or grammatical (for example, the plural morpheme -s on nouns such as bananas).
Morphemes are different to syllables. The word bananas contains two morphemes banana-s and three syllables ba-na-nas. (You can identify syllables by clapping the rhythm of the word.)
Morphology also looks at the way morphemes are combined into words. Thus, it distinguishes between forms that can stand alone (bases, for example the verb run) and forms that can be added to bases (for example, the suffix -ing which marks present participles).

Morpheme is a smallest unit of grammatical. There are two kinds of morpheme namely free morpheme and bound morpheme. Free morpheme is the morpheme that has meaning even if those morphemes not grouped with the other morpheme. Bound morpheme unlike with free morpheme, because bound morpheme has not meaning without grouped with the other morpheme. Some example of free morpheme are like, forget and play. Morphemes as Meaningful Sequences of Sounds
"A word cannot be divided into morphemes just by sounding out its syllables. Some morphemes, like apple, have more than one syllable; others, like -s, are less than a syllable. A morpheme is a form (a sequence of sounds) with a recognizable meaning. Knowing a word's early history, or etymology, may be useful in dividing it into morphemes, but the decisive factor is the form-meaning link.
Morpheme is the smallest grammatical unit in a language. In other words, it is the smallest meaningful unit of a language. Morpheme that can stand alone to function as words are called free morpheme. A morpheme is the smallest syntactical and meaningful linguistic unit that contains a word, or an element of the word such as the use of –s whereas this unit is not divisible further into smaller syntactical parts.

non- is an example of a prefix , or a morpheme that precedes a base morpheme

Both non- and -able are examples of an
affix, a morpheme attached prior to or following a base that cannot function independently as a word.
2. unshockable is made up of three morphemes
un-, shock , and -able .
Shock is a free morpheme because it can be used alone as a complete unit – it is free of other morphemes.
Un- and -able are bound morphemes because they modify a free morpheme. Even though they are not words in their own right, they do have meaning: un- means ‘not’ and -able means ‘able to be’.

morphology is an essential subfield of linguistic. generally, it aims to describe the structure of words and patterns of word formation in a language. Specifically, it aims to
1. pin down the principles for relating the form and meaning of morphological expressions.
2. explain how the morphological units are integrated and the resulting formations interpreted.and
3. show how morphological units are organized in the lexicon in terms of affinity and contrast.
the study of morphology uncovers the lexical resources of language, helps speakers to acquire the skill of using them creativelly, and consequently express their thoughts and emotions with eloquence
Example :
. "dogs" consists 2 morpheme is dog (anjing) and -s (meand plural)
. " Nonperishable" is comprised of three morpheme: non-,perish,and -able.
non-is an example of a prefix,or a morpheme that precedes a base morpheme
perish is an example of a base morpheme,as it gives the words its essential meaning.
-able is an example of a suffix, or a morpheme that follows a base morpheme
Both non- and -able are example of an affix, a morpheme attached prior to or following a base that cannot function independently as a word.

1.Free Morpheme
Can stand alone independent occurrence carries basic meaning.
a. Lexical Morpheme
- Has lexical meaning

b. Functional Morpheme
- Expresses grammatical or structural relationship.
- Has or no meaning
- Conjuctions,prepositions,articles and pronous.

1. Morph
Morph is the phonetic realization of a
morpheme which study the unit of form,
sounds and phonetic symbol. The morphs can
be devided into two important classes,
lexical and grammatical.
1. Lexical morph is the morph that denote
directly objects actions, qualities and
other pieces of real word (ex : table,
dog, walk, etc.)
2. Grammatical morph is the morph that
has been modifiying the meaning of
the lexical morphs by adding a certain
element to them. (ex : un-, -able, re-,
-d, in-, -ent, -ly, -al, -ize, -a-, -tion,
anti-, dis-, -ment, -ari-, -an, -ism)

Morpheme is an any of the minimal grammatical units of a language, each constituting a word or meaningful part of a word, that cannot be divided into smaller independent grammatical parts.
There are two Morpheme :
* free morpheme which in simple way we call it as base word and,
*bound morpheme which including affixes. (pre-, dis-, in-, un-, -ful, -able, -ment, -ly, -ise)
For easier undertanding, I'll give some example of morpheme.

Based on the explanation I can make a conclusion that Morphology is the branch of linguistics (and one of the major components of grammar) that studies word structures, especially in terms of morphemes.
1. Derivational morpheme: a bound morpheme
such as -ish used to make new words or
words of a different grammatical category
(e.g. boyish), in contrast to an inflectional
2. Inflectional morpheme: a bound morpheme
used to indicate the grammatical function of a
word, also called an “inflection” (e.g. dogs,
walked)
Example :
undressed
un- dress -ed
prefix stem suffix
(bound) (free) (bound)
carelessness
care -less -ness
stem suffix suffix
(free) (bound) (bound)

I think this The Material Morpheme very easy for me to learn.
Morphemes are the indivisible basic units of language, much like the atoms which physicists once assumed were the indivisible units of matter. English speakers borrowed morpheme from French morphème, which was itself created from the Greek root morphē, meaning "form." The French borrowed -ème from their word phonème, which, like English phoneme, means "the smallest unit of speech that can be used to make one word different from another word." The French suffix and its English equivalent -eme are used to create words that refer to distinctive units of language structure. Words formed from -eme include lexeme ("a meaningful linguistic unit that is an item in the vocabulary of a language"), grapheme ("a unit of a writing system"), and toneme ("a unit of intonation in a language in which variations in tone distinguish meaning").

Morphology is a linguistic branch that identifies the basic units of language as grammatical units. Morphology learns the ins and outs of the word form as well as the effect of the word-form changes on the group and the meaning of words. or in other words it can be said that morphology learns the ins and outs of the word form as well as the function of the word-form changes. both grammatical and semantic functions.

There are two (2) types of morpheme , namely free morpheme and bound morpheme.
-Free Morpheme
Free morpheme is a morpheme that can stand alone and has a clear meaning even without another morpheme. This type of morpheme makes it possible to become a word. Free morpheme is divided into 2 types, namely lexical morpheme and functional morpheme.
-Bound Morpheme
Bound morpheme is a morpheme whose meaning depends on another morpheme (Freemorpheme). Bound morpheme cannot stand alone and always attaches to Free morpheme as an affix and may change the meaning of the free morpheme it attaches. Free morpheme which can be attached to bound morpheme is only lexical morpheme while functional morpheme cannot.
Bound morpheme is divided into 2 types, namely inflectional morpheme and derivational morpheme.
1. Inflection Morpheme
This morpheme does not change the meaning of the free morpheme it attaches, nor does it change the word class, for example from noun to noun, from verb to verb, etc. Some inflectional morpheme are er, est, s, es, ed, en and ing.
Inflectional morpheme functions include superlative and comparative degrees (est, er), forming V2 and V3 (ed, en), making things plural (s, es), for verbs on 3rd singular person (s, es) and present participle (V1 + ing).
*e.g small + er = smaller
*walk + ed = walked
2. Derivational Morpheme
This morpheme changes the meaning of the morpheme it attaches, for example from positive to negative / the opposite of the morpheme attached, forms a new term, and changes its word class, for example from noun to adjective, from adjective to noun, from verb to noun, from verb to noun adjective, etc.
*example that change meaning, such as ir, in, eg, un, re, hood, ship:
in + correct = incorrect (correct = true, to incorrect = false)
*example that change word classes, usually suffixes such as ness, ly, al, able, ity, ment, er:
happy + ness = happiness (happy = adjective, being happiness = noun)

.
According to Sitindoan, Morpheme is the smallest grammatical unity that contains meaning, which has no similarity both in form and in meaning with other forms.
.
And basically, morpheme is the smallest grammatical unit both free and bound which has meaning, both lexically and grammatically.
.
For example, 'Eat' has implications that are not the same as 'Eats'. Likewise with the word 'un-like-ly', where 'un' and 'ly' have their own linguistic meaning and implications.

An allomorph is a linguistic term for variant forms of morpheme. This concept occurs when a unit of meaning can vary in sound (phonologically) without changing meaning. This is used in linguistics to explain the understanding of variations in sound for certain morphemes.

Based on material that I read and I understand it, I can conclude first
Morpheme is the smallest part of language that has meaning - it can even change the meaning of other words. There are two (2) types of morpheme whose laws are 'mandatory' for us to know, namely free morpheme and bound morpheme.
Free Morpheme
Free morpheme or also called Root (root word) is a morpheme that can stand alone and has a clear meaning even without another morpheme.
Free morpheme is divided into 2 types, namely lexical morpheme and functional morpheme.
1. Lexical Morpheme
Lexical morpheme is a free morpheme that can stand alone, but can also be affixed (affix) either the prefix (prefix) or suffix (suffix).
2. Functional Morpheme
Functional morpheme can stand alone, but cannot be added like a lexical morpheme.
Bound Morpheme
Bound morpheme is a morpheme whose meaning depends on another morpheme (Freemorpheme).
Bound morpheme is divided into 2 types, namely inflectional morpheme and derivational morpheme.
1. Infective Morpheme
This morpheme does not change the meaning of the free morpheme it attaches, nor does it change the word class, for example from noun to noun, from verb to verb Etc. Some more inflectional morpheme which is er, est, s, ice, Ed, en and ing. Example small + er = smaller
long + est = longest
walk + ed = walked
2. Derivational Morpheme
This morpheme changes the meaning of the morpheme it attaches, for example from positive to negative / the opposite of the word morpheme attached, forming a new term. And changing a class says, let's say noun to noun, from noun, from verb to noun, from verb to verb, etc.
Example
Understand it, be misunderstood
UN + happy = happy, become unhappy.

Based on the explanation in classroom I can make it may be a conclusion that a morpheme is none other than the smallest meaningful language or grammatical unit, which can be a wasp or a word. The set up morfeum according to morphology of a language includes all combinations that make up a word or part of a word.
To prove that morfem as a different meaning can be done by combining that morfem with a word that has something like an lexicon. If such merging gives new meaning, then the element digabated with the root is morfem.
Example:
· the word is good with words improving, so with words be, and so on. The word good has a different meaning than the word for being better, because the word for good consists of one morfem, whereas the word for improved is made up of two morfem, or morfem, the bound of m - and morfem free of good. Here it would have a different meaning to contain it.
· morfem -- an, -in, me-, ter-, contain, if put together with the words eat, be able to form words eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, which have a new meaning different than the word eat.
To determine whether or not a shape is morfem we have to compare that form in some other form. If the unit can come in repeatedly and have the same meaning, it would be morfem. In morphology, the unit of form that is morfem is flanked by brackets the second word becomes positive.

DEFENITION OF MORPHEME
1. Bloomfield (1933 : 161)
“morpheme ia a linguistic from wich bears no partial phonetic – semantic resemblance to any other form.
2. Gleason (1955) “a morpheme is the sellest unit which is grammatically pertinent.
3. Payne (1997: 20-21) “Morpheme is the smallest
meaningful unit in the grammar of a language.
CLASSIFICATION OF MORPHEME
* FREE MORPHEME
1. Yule ( 2006) “Free Morpheme that can stand by themselves as single words”, whereas “bound morpheme” are those forms that cannot normally stand alone and are typically attached to another form.
2. Crystal ( 1997 ) “Free Morpheme can occur as separated words”.
3. Mish ( 1990 ) “A free morpheme is a grammatical unit that can occur by itself. However, other morpheme such as affixes can be attached to it”.
*BOUND MORPHEME
1. Pei dan Geynor ( 1954 ) “Bound morpheme is a grammatical unit that never occurs by itself, but is always attached to some other morphemes”.
2. O’Grady ( 1997 ) “ Bound morpheme is a morpheme that must be attached to another element”.
It can be concluded that Free morpheme iaa morpheme that can stand alone and have meaning. While Bound Morpheme is a morpheme that can not stand alone and certainly will not have meaning. Bound Morpheme can be linked to other morpheme and will have a different meaning from the initial word.
Example:
*Like – free morpheme, if added un ( bound morpheme) -- UNLIKE, it has different meaning
*Dog- dog + s , the mean will different from the first morpheme.

Morphem, Morph, and Allomorph
1. Morphem
Morpheme is the smallest part of the word. The smallest part ‘has meaning’. For example, 'Eat' has implications that are not the same as 'Eats'. Likewise with the word 'un-like-ly', where un and ly have their own linguistic meaning and implications.
In English the morpheme is divided into 2, namely free morphemes and bound morphemes.
1. Free morphemes are morphemes that can stand alone into words without having to be bound / attached to other morphemes.
Example: study,man, kind,on.
Free morphemes are divided into 2, namely lexical morphemes (open-class) and functional morphemes (closed-class).
2. Bound morphemes are morphemes that cannot stand alone but must be bound / attached to other morphemes.
Example: happiness, niceness, chairness, runness
Bound morphemes are divided into 2, namely derivational morphemes and inflectional morphemes.
2. Morph
Morph is the phonetic form of morpheme which studies the unit of phonetic form, sound and symbols. Morph is divided into two namely lexical and grammatical.
1.) Lexical morph is a morph that directly shows the object of real action. For example: table, dog, walk, look, follow, etc.
2.) Grammatical morph is a morph that has modified its lexical meaning by adding certain elements. Example: un-, -able, re-, -d, in-, -ent, -ly, -al, -ize, -a-, -tion, anti-, dis-, -ment, -ari-, - an, -ism
3. Allomorph
Allomorphs are variant forms of morphemes about sounds and phonetic symbols but that doesn't change the meaning.
Example:
Three different allomorphs
· Cats / s /
· Dogs / z /
· Boxes / iz /
One allomorph
· Discount / dis /
· Disbelieve / dis /
Two different allomorphs
· Voiced / d /
· Walked / t /

According to Katamba (1993: 24) morpheme is the smallest difference regarding the meaning of words or the meaning of sentences in grammatical structures. There are 2 types of morpheme, namely:
1. Free Morpheme
Free morpheme is a morpheme that can stand alone, or a free morpheme is a grammatical unit that can occur by itself. They, the free morphemes are a word. Free morpheme is divided into two types namely content morpheme and funtional morpheme.
Morpheme content according to Yule (2006), is "Set of ordinary nouns, adjectives and verbs which we think of as words which carry the "content" of messages we convey ". This definition classifies part of speech like noun, adjective, verb and so on into the content morpheme with the message contained in it.
For example : Read (verb), Baby (noun), Cool (adj).
Functional morpheme according to Yule (2006), is "Set consistantly of the functional words in the language. " The statement explains that functional morpheme includes functional words whose scope is broad in linguistics.
Some examples of fungional morpheme are: But (conj), At (prep), The (artc), She (pronoun).
2. Bound Morpheme
Yule (2006) states that "Bound morpheme are those forms that cannot normally stand alone and are typically attached to another form ". The statement explains that bound morpheme is morpheme which cannot stand alone as a word.
According to Williams (1975), the inflation is the process of adding the affix to a free morphemen to produce a complex formation. He divides it into two kinds of them:
1. Prefix such as an example: un-, dis-, in-, pre-, etc.
2. Suffix such as an example: -ern, -er, -ility, -s, -ed, and so forth.
From the above statement it can be concluded that Bound Morpheme is a prefix and suffix that can not stand alone and should be followed at least one other morphemen as a whole word. Bound Morpheme also has two kinds of inserts, prefix and suffix.

Morpheme is the smallest meaningful unit of morphology. There are 2 types of morpheme they are free morpheme and bound morpheme.
Free morpheme (bebas)
Free morpheme is the roots which are capable standing by itself. Ex: smart, sing, pen, make
Lexical morpheme (content words/ open class words): carry the content of word include: noun, verbs, adjective, adverb. Ex: beauty, play, sing
Functional morpheme (function words): include Pronoun, article, conjunction, preposition. Ex: and, from, in, or, etc.
Bound morpheme (terikat)
Bound morpheme is the roots which are cannot stand by themselves.
Derivation morpheme: change either the meaning and word class of root into which they are attached. Ex: develop – development : V – N; 2019 Linguistik Id

*Morpheme is the smallest unit of a language that has meaning and cannot be shared anymore.
example: the word "UNBREAKABLE"
"Unbreakable" consists of 3 morpheme, namely: un- (which can be interpreted as "not"), -break- (root of the word or free morpheme), and -able (can be interpreted as "Can be done or can be done").
*Morph is a concrete form of Morpheme. The definition of Morph refers more to the phonemic shape or structure characteristic of a Morpheme, regardless of whether it has the same meaning or different from other Morphs.
*Allomorph
Different forms of morphemes are called allomorphs or can also be called various variant forms of morphemes about phonetic symbols and symbols, but do not change the meaning.

• Morph: A morph is simply the phonetic representation of a morpheme, how the morpheme is said.
Cats - '-s' morpheme is pronounced /s/
Dogs - '-s' morpheme is pronounced /z/
Houses -'-s'morpheme is pronounced /tz/
This /s/, /z/, /iz/ are the different sound of same morpheme (-s).
• Morpheme: Smallest meaningful unit, cannot be further divided or analyzed
Ex: Unthinkable = 'un-' 'think' and '-able'
Ex: Books = Book and s.
• Allomorph: Allomorphs are different forms of the same morpheme, or basic unit of meaning. These can be different pronunciations or different spellings. An allomorph is a variant form of a morpheme, that is, when a unit of meaning varies in sound without changing the meaning.

In English grammar and morphology,
morpheme is a meaningful linguistic unit consisting of a word (such as dog) or a word element (such as the -s at the end of dogs) that can't be divided into smaller meaningful parts. Adjective: morphemic.
Morphemes are the smallest units of meaning in a language. They are commonly classified as either free morphemes (which can occur as separate words) or bound morphemes (which can't stand alone as words).
EXAMPLES AND OBSERVATIONS
A prefix may be a morpheme:
"What does it mean to pre-board? Do you get on before you get on?"
(George Carlin) Individual words may be morphemes:
"They want to put you in a box, butnobody's in a box. You're not in a box."
(John Turturro) Contracted word forms may be morphemes:
"They want to put you in a box, but nobody's in a box. You're not in a box."

The smallest recognized unit of meaning, morphemes function as the foundation of language. Explore this foundation through a full definition, discussion of types, and examples. Then, test your knowledge with a quiz.
In linguistics, we would further classify morphemes either as phonemes (the smallest units of grammar recognizable by sound) or graphemes (the smallest units of written language).
Both non- and -able are examples of an affix, a morpheme attached prior to or following a base that cannot function independently as a word.

According to Booij (2005:8),
“Morpheme is the morphological building
bloks of word, are difined as the minimal Linguistics units with a grammatical
meaning”. It means that Morpheme is the smallest elements of Linguistics that
deals with grammatical meaning.
According to Lieber (2009:32), “Morpheme is the meaningful units that are
used to form words”. It means that morpheme is the unit of form word ehich has a lot of meaning. In the other hand, Morpheme also is smaller unit of word.
