Konsep Dasar Morfologi

It is also interested in how the users of a given language understand complex word and invent new lexical items. As morphology is concerned with word forms it is akin to phonology (which describes how words are pronounced), it is also related to lexical studies as the patterns examined by morphology are used to create new word.

Morphology merupakan bisang ilmu yang membahas kata dasar dan imbuhan. Objek dari morphology adalah morpheme. Secara garis besar, morpheme dibagi menjadi free morpheme dan bound morpheme.
A. FREE MORPHEME
1. Pronoun: I, You, They, We, He, She, It
2. Conjunction: And, But, Before, … etc
3. Preposition: In, At, On, … etc
4. Interjection: Ah, Hai, Hallo, Wow, … etc
5. Article: A, An, The
6. Demostrative: That, This, These, Those
B. BOUND MORPHEME
Bound Morpheme (BM) merupakan morpheme yang tidak dapat berdiri sendiri, tidak berpotensi membentuk kata namun berpotensi membentuk imbuhan. Adapun jenisnya adalah Derivational Morpheme (DM) dan Inflectional Morpheme (IM). DM dapat membentuk kata baru. Sedangkan makna dan kelas kata dapat berubah atau tidak. DM terbagi menjadi 2 jenis, yaitu:
a. Derivational prefix: Irregular, Dislike
b. Derivational suffix: Careless, Fortunately

Morphology has many definition but, has one purpose.
Definition of MORPHOLOGY FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
• linguistics : the study and description of how words are formed in language
• biology : the study of the form and structure of animals and plants
• : the form and structure of a plant or animal or any of its parts
(Bauer, 2004)[1] summarises the morphological process of word-formation as well as distinguishing Inflectional and Derivational morphology
Bauer (2004) defines word-formation as a process with the result of a new lexeme. A lexeme is the form of the word which is considered to be the ‘standard form’, it is the form of the word which it is categorized as within dictionary. There are two types of word-formation:
*Compounding
*Derivation
Compounding is the formation of a new word by combining tow or more existing words.
E.g. Green + House = Greenhouse
Derivational morphology is ‘the formation of a word from another word or base’ (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/derivation). There a are a number of different types of derivation including:
*Conversion
E.g. network (noun) – to network (verb)
*Back-formation
E.g. editor (noun) – edit (verb)
*Blending
E.g. smoke (noun) + fog (noun) = smog (noun)
Embedded below is a brief video which outlines the process of word-formation and gives a description of the difference between inflectional and derivational

Morphology is the study of words. Morphemes are the minimal units of words that have a meaning and cannot be subdivided further. There are two main types: free and bound. Free morphemes can occur alone and bound morphemes must occur with another morpheme. An example of a free morpheme is "bad", and an example of a bound morpheme is "ly." It is bound because although it has meaning, it cannot stand alone. It must be attached to another morpheme to produce a word.

morphology is an essential subfield of linguistic. generally, it aims to describe the structure of words and patterns of word formation in a language. Specifically, it aims to
1. pin down the principles for relating the form and meaning of morphological expressions.
2. explain how the morphological units are integrated and the resulting formations interpreted.and
3. show how morphological units are organized in the lexicon in terms of affinity and contrast.
the study of morphology uncovers the lexical resources of language, helps speakers to acquire the skill of using them creativelly, and consequently express their thoughts and emotions with eloquence
Example :
. "dogs" consists 2 morpheme is dog (anjing) and -s (meand plural)
. " Nonperishable" is comprised of three morpheme: non-,perish,and -able.
non-is an example of a prefix,or a morpheme that precedes a base morpheme
perish is an example of a base morpheme,as it gives the words its essential meaning.
-able is an example of a suffix, or a morpheme that follows a base morpheme
Both non- and -able are example of an affix, a morpheme attached prior to or following a base that cannot function independently as a word.

I want answer irdaynti's question...
Orthography is the practice or study of correct spelling according to established usage. In a broader sense, orthography can refer to the study of letters and how they are used to express sounds and form words. "Prosody and orthography are not parts of grammar," Ben Johnson wrote in the early 1600s, "but diffused like the blood and spirits through the whole."

ReplyDeleteIn linguistics, morphology (/mɔːrˈfɒlədʒi/) is the study of words, how they are formed, and their relationship to other words in the same language. It analyzes the structure of words and parts of words, such as stems, root words, prefixes, and suffixes.

In my opinion about morphology, morphology is about branches of linguistics, pronunciation, components of grammar. Morphology looks at parts of speech, intonation and pressure, and the way the context can change the pronunciation and meaning of words. morphology is the structure of words in language and describes how words are formed in language.
And finally, all simple words are morphemes but not all morphemes is word.

Morpheme is the smallest part or smallest unit in meaning that has a grammatical function.
morpheme is divided into 2, namely:
1. Free morphemes are morphemes which have an independent meaning or meaning.
2. A bound morpheme is a morpheme that cannot stand alone or must be combined with a free morpheme in order to have meaning.
for example “Introduction” has 3 morpheme
1. "in-", >> bound morpheme; >> prefix
2. "troduct", >> free morpheme;
3. "-tion", >> bound morpheme >> suffix

In my opinion, the difference between free morpheme and bound morpheme is free morpheme ( morfem bebas) is a morpheme that can stand alone or we can say independent morpheme, this morpheme don't need any morpheme to complement it, for example full word or function word like table and chair, while bound morpheme is a morpheme that can't stand alone, this morpheme need another morpheme to compliment it, for example affix or bound base) thank you

Morpheme is the smallest form unit in a language which has meaning and cannot be divided into smaller units. According to the meaning and form, morphemes can be divided into two types, namely:
1. Free morphemes are morphemes that can stand alone in terms of meaning, which do not have to be connected with other morphemes. For Example: This chair is made of teak wood, the "chair" here is a free morpheme which consists of one morpheme.
2. A bound morpheme is a morpheme that cannot stand alone in terms of meaning. For Example: When will this rain stop."Stop" here is the bound morpheme because it cannot stand alone, and is bound to the morpheme "ber-".

Morphology is the study of the ins and outs of words, the structure of words, and the process of forming these words. Meanwhile, word is an element that can stand alone.
The word has two categories, namely closed category / function word and Open category / class word. closed category / function word is a word category that cannot be added (affix), such as determiners, auxiliriaries, intensiveiers, prepositions, conjunctions and question words, each of which has a function. Meanwhile, Open Category / class word is a word that can be added (affix). There are 4 open categories / word classes, namely Noun, Verb, Adjective, and adverb.
Morpheme is the smallest linguistic unit which has a meaning or grammatical function. The morpheme is indescribable. There are 2 classification of Morpheme, namely Free Morpheme (Morpheme that can stand alone, for example basic words) and Bound Morpheme (Morpheme that cannot stand alone, for example affix and bound base). Thank you 🙏🙏

Morpheme is the smallest language unit which has a meaning or programmatic function. Morpheme is divided into two, namely free morpheme and bound morpheme, free morpheme is commonly called morpheme bebas which can stand alone while bound morpheme or morpheme terikat is morpheme that cannot stand alone. free morpheme is divided into two, namely full word and function word. then bound morpheme is also divided into two, namely afix (affix) and bound base (words that are bound), afix is divided into two, namely prefix (awalan) and sufix(Akhiran).
Furthermore, Morph is a part or segment of the word form which represents a particular morpheme.
Allomorph is a different morph which represents the same morpheme grouped by Allomorph is a variant of the morpheme, eg. plural markers in English are sometimes interpreted as | -z /, / - s / or / -iz /.

Morpeheme is the smallest grammatical unit that has meaning. Morpheme cannot be further divided into smaller language forms, both those that can stand alone and those that cannot stand alone. Morpheme can be exemplified by words such as the 3 examples below:
°° Unbreakable : un-break-able : has 3 morphemes.
1. "Un" ( bound morpeheme)
2. "Break" ( free morpheme, and
3. "Able" ( bound morpheme)
°° Inactive : in-act-ive : has 3 morphemes.
1. "In" (bound morpheme)
2. "Act" (free morpheme, and
3. "Ive" (bound morpheme)
°° interaction : inter-act-ion : has 3 morphemes.
1. "Inter" (bound morpheme)
2. "Act" (free morpheme,and
3. "Ion" (bound morpheme)
Morpeheme is also divided into 2 types, namely, there are free morpheme and bound morpheme:
* Free morpheme (morfem bebas) is a morpheme that can stand alone into words without having to be bound by other morphemes.
* Bound morpheme (morfem terikat) is a morpheme that cannot stand alone, because it must be bound with another morpheme to become a word.
Thank you🙏
